Three standout Elgin High School varsity softball players signed their National Letter of Intent Wednesday, Nov. 8 as Lady Wildcats seniors Jessica Cantrell, Jaylan Roberson and Mackenzie Farris signed to play collegiate softball on National Signing Day.

“Each year we have the privilege of recognizing high school athletes who are signing to commit to play sports at the collegiate level,” Elgin High School said in a statement on Facebook. “The amount of dedication, hard work, academic achievement and countless hours of practice it takes to be recruited to play college athletics is truly worth honoring.”

Cantrell signed her NLI to play for the Falcons of the University of Texas Permian Basin in Odessa, which competes in the massive Lone Star Conference in NCAA Division II against schools from Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Arkansas.

Roberson will also join the competition amongst the Lone Star Conference after she signed her NLI to play softball for St. Mary’s University in San Antonio and will be an excellent addition to the Rattlers’ program.

Farris will attend the University of Dallas and play for the Crusaders, who compete in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference versus other collegiate programs from across Texas, Louisiana and Colorado.

This will be quite an Elgin softball trio with Cantrell, Roberson and Farris for the Lady Wildcats softball program that is set to make another run in the 5A playoffs this upcoming 2023-24 spring sports season.
