All-district awards for 5A-District 23 were announced last week, and there was no shortage of Lady Wildcats on the list. Under head coach Patricia Rivers-Taylor, Elgin was well represented amongst selections from the teams in their district.
Lady Wildcats freshman Meta Elliott took home the highest honor for Elgin as she was named a first-team all-district selection in just her first year on the varsity level.
As a leader of the Elgin volleyball team, Lady Wildcats senior Avanity Pleasant was named as a second-team all-district selection for her solid season.
Selected as all-district honorable mentions for Elgin were junior Nadia Sagastume, sophomore Trinity Martinez and sophomore Bella Navejas. Elgin had a tough season in 2023 in which it was unable to win any district matches but continued to fight hard and made gradual improvements throughout the year. With such a large number of younger players set to return in 2024, the Lady Wildcats should continue to make strides as a volleyball program.
