Margaret Neeley Henze, 77 of Elgin, passed away peacefully at home Friday, Nov. 17, 2023, with her family by her side. She was born July 14, 1946, in Mingus. She was the daughter of Esco and Allean Neeley.

Margaret lived her life with a great, faithful heart for her heavenly father. She cherished her time here on earth full of love for her family and friends. She married the love of her life, as she would say her handsome cowboy of 57 years. Together they raised their two daughters on their Henze farm in Elgin.

No one was a stranger to our mama. She always had our friends call her Momo and welcomed them as her own. She always made sure everyone felt like family with love and open arms.

Margaret retired from the Texas Highway Department with 30 plus years of service. She then became an activity director at the Elgin Nursing Home, as well as Taylor Nursing Home.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Brad, Leslie and Donald; and nephew, Gayle Bradley.

She is survived by her loving husband, Gene Henze; daughters, Sherry and husband Greg Stifflemire, Aleshia and husband Doyle Lee Harkins, DeLaine and husband Charlie Johnson, and Melissa Hardi; her grandchildren, Brittney and husband Richard Brown, Layne, Cole, Levi Harkins, Michael and Scarlet Boswell, Blake Boswell and Maddie Hardi; great-grandchildren, Dakota, Hunter Brown, Everett and Brooks Boswell; sister-in-law, Carol Neeley; nephew, James Neeley; and numerous great-nieces and nephews, and was deeply loved and cared for by so many friends.

The visitation was Monday, Nov. 20, at Providence Jones Funeral Home in Elgin. A celebration of life service was held Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 10 a.m. St Peter’s Church of Coupland.

A burial followed at Taylor City Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Serenity Hospice out of Bastrop in Mama’s memory.

Arrangements were entrusted to Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home.
