The Elgin High School boys and girls varsity soccer teams continued the start of their seasons this past week. The Wildcats took part Jan. 11-13 in the Copa Akins Tournament in Austin and the Lady Wildcats had a pair of home matches Jan. 9 versus Manor High School and Jan. 12 against Hutto High School.
ELGIN LADY WILDCATS
The first victory of the regular season for the Lady Wildcats was very sweet as Elgin put together a dominant 5-0 shutout victory over the Manor Lady Mustangs. Scoring for Elgin on the evening against Manor were junior Kailyn Cook with two goals, fellow junior Dory Estrada with two goals and sophomore Lilli Giron with one goal.
Elgin also played Hutto on Friday night as the Lady Wildcats and visiting Lady Hippos played to a scoreless 0-0 draw.
The Lady Wildcats will next compete Jan. 18-20 at the Governor’s Cup tournament held in Georgetown with upcoming matches Jan. 18 at 8 p.m. against Lubbock Monterey High School, Jan. 19 at 12:40 p.m. with Victoria East High School and Jan. 20 at 12:40 p.m. against Princeton High School. Elgin will then start 5A-District 23 play Jan. 23 on the road at Georgetown East View High School.

Elgin boys varsity soccer went 0-2-2 in four matches last week as the Wildcats played to a 3-3 tie on the road Jan. 9 at Del Valle High School, fell 3-0 to Cedar Park Vista Ridge High School in the Copa Akins opener, tied Pflugerville Weiss High School 1-1 and fell 1-0 to Austin High School in the tournament finale.
Following Tuesday night’s scheduled home match versus Austin Navarro High School, the Wildcats varsity squad will have some time off before the start of district play Jan. 23 at home versus the East View Patriots.
