Lady Bears defeat rival Cedar Creek

BASTROP – The Bastrop High School girls varsity basketball team picked up its first 5A-District 23 victory of the season this past week as the Lady Bears hosted rival Cedar Creek High School and traveled to take on Georgetown High School.

BASTROP — The Bastrop High School girls varsity basketball team picked up its first 5A-District 23 victory of the season this past week as the Lady Bears hosted rival Cedar Creek High School and traveled to take on Georgetown High School.

BASTROP LADY BEARS 54, CEDAR CREEK LADY EAGLES 20

The Lady Bears were able to put it all together as a team on both offense and defense Jan. 17 as Bastrop routed the Cedar Creek Lady Eagles 54-20. Bastrop sophomore Kenadee Lawhon helped lead the way as she finished with a game-high 17 points, eight steals, three assists, one rebound and one blocked shot. The Lady Bears also had key contributors on the night as freshman Harmony Bonner had six points and seven rebounds, fellow freshman Keelyn Johnson with six points to go along with six rebounds and four steals as well as junior Paytin Greene with five points, four steals, three assists and two rebounds.

GEORGETOWN LADY EAGLES 71, BASTROP LADY BEARS 35

Although Bastrop had a very tough time Jan. 19 on the road against powerhouse Georgetown, the Lady Bears had one player reach a milestone Friday as Lawhon scored her 500th career point as just a sophomore. Lawhon finished with 13 points on a trio of three-pointers made to go along with two rebounds, two assists and two steals.

The Lady Bears (8-16 overall, 1-8 in district) under Head Coach La Barbera Roberson will continue district play this week with home games scheduled Jan. 22 versus Pflugerville High School and Jan. 26 hosting Pflugerville Hendrickson High School.
