Elgin’s newest boys in blue traveled to the State Capitol this past week to receive special honors as they begin their service journey.
Select Police Department staff attended the Capital Area Council of Governments Class 100 graduation, March 8, sponsoring six promising new officers.
CAPCOG strives to strengthen the capital of Texas and the ten-county surrounding region by supporting urban and rural local governments through coordination, collaboration and the sharing of ideas and resources, according to the organization.
Out of thirty graduating cadets, Elgin’s selection excelled academically, won awards and received recognition from organization leaders for their outstanding performance, according to the department.
In the following week, the cadets will report back to the station to begin an internal “mini academy,” where they will learn specific ordinances, policies and procedures proprietary to the department.
Officers will then be paired with training partners and undergo a six-month-long process in the field.
This is the largest graduating class of cadets the Police Department has ever had at one time, better positioning themselves to handle Elgin’s rapid growth, according to the department.
