Harvest Ridge Elementary brings new school zones

With a booming population and two new elementary schools on the horizon, Elgin Independent School District’s attendance boundaries have been rezoned for the 2024-25 school year.

Elgin ISD Chief Financial Officer Jeffri Orosco presented the zoning changes in coordination with data sources from the April demographic study, district scorecard priorities and community feedback.

“We wanted to ensure that we are balancing our campuses, including our neighborhoods and keeping them together when possible, ensuring safety as well as traffic distribution and bus safety, improving travel time for our bus riders,” said Orosco.

The rezoning optimizes space with efficient and equitable use of current and future school facilities, addressing the district’s growth and overcrowding concerns, according to Orosco. The new district map aims to uphold neighborhood unity with efforts made to keep subdivisions together. Traffic distribution and rider safety remains a priority, added the CFO.

Harvest Ridge Elementary School, the district’s fourth development center scheduled to open for the next school year, will claim the northern quadrant of the district, leaving Neidig Elementary to hold the west, Washington Elementary the east and Elgin Elementary the south.

The new map does not include Trinity Ranch Elementary, which broke ground April 2.

Parents with fourth grade risers on new boundaries will have the option to re-enroll their children in their current school for the 2024-25 semester, considering available space. A sibling attendance chain would allow relatives of the risers to join them only for the single school year, later to be transferred to the appropriate campus.

A precise zoning map and transfer applications are available at https://www.elginisd.net.

Transfer applications must be completed by May 10.
