Registered Bastrop County voters are free to hit the polls early next week for the upcoming May 4 General Election.
Early voting will begin April 22 and last through April 30, excluding the weekend. Residents will be deciding who fills the seats for critical rolls across the county and weighing in on school district bond approvals.
Poll booths for early voters can be found at the Elgin Recreation Center, Smithville Recreation Center, Bastrop County Courthouse Annex and Bastrop County Cedar Creek Annex. Locations will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 22-26, and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 29-30.
Contested ballot races for Elgin include City Councilmember Ward 3, Taylor Christian and Al Rodriguez, and Ward 4, Sue Prinz Brashar and Stephanie McBurney Lippke. The Mayor At-Large position will be uncontested, seeing Theresa McShan continue to hold her seat.
Two Elgin Independent School District Bond Elections will also appear before voters – a $366 million bond for campus facilities, and a $9 million bond for educational programs through a new press box and scoreboard at Wildcat Stadium.
In addition, two seats on the Board of trustees are up for election. District 3 will be a race between Beth Walterscheidt and Julissa Kyle, and District 6 will be between Pete Bega and Tracy Norris-Samuels.
Smithville is represented with runners for its mayor, Tom Etheredge and Sharon Seidel Foerster, Councilmember Place 4, Dane Garr ison and Mitchell Jameson, and Place 5, Brandon Dunham and Cathy Meek.
The only city seat up for Bastrop is Counci lmember Place 4, Jimmy Crouch and Kerry Fossler.
Other ticketed items include spots for Bastrop Central Appraisal District, Bastrop County Municipal Utility District No. 1 and Bastrop, Smithville, McDade and Lexington Independent School Districts.
More polling locations will be available on the day of the election, May 4.
