STEPHANIE MCBURNEY LIPPKE

STEPHANIE MCBURNEY LIPPKE

WARD 4

How old are you and what do you do?

I’m old enough, and I’m a registered voter and resident of Elgin.

What sets you apart from the other candidates?

I am a communicator. The citizens of Elgin want to be heard and validated. This is a problem for the current Ward 4 council members. Their failure to respond to emails and requests for meetings from citizens, local business owners and local charities needing their help is unacceptable. Government of the people, for the people and by the people is my democratic guiding principle and it will be what sets me apart. I am accessible.

If elected, what will be your main priority?

Strategic planning. Our town is growing exponentially, daily. My opponent was party to disbanding the Envision Elgin Strategic Planning Board. This board is vital to the future and direction of Elgin. We can not plan for our future without a strategic plan to guide us for the next 10, 20 and 30 years. This will be my main priority year one on the Elgin City Council.

What is the biggest issue facing Elgin/Elgin ISD at the moment?

Same answer as question No. 3. I will add that a municipality that is growing by 35,000 plus people, in the next three to five years, that doesn’t have an updated and evolving strategic plan is governing negligently and not in the best interest of the citizens.

Why are you running?

I love this community and I want the best for Elgin. There have been huge changes in the past 10 years that my opponent has been on the Council. There has been ample opportunity for my opponent to affect change, evolve and pivot to the needs of the citizens she represents. I ran last year, and this year, because the citizens of Ward 4 deserve a city council member that will communicate with them and represent the interests of Ward 4 citizens first and foremost.

Why should people vote for you?

Citizens of Ward 4 can trust that I will always strive to keep them informed, educated and up to date on state of the city of Elgin. They can trust that I will get the answers they seek and the issues resolved that are brought to my attention.

Why should voters trust you?

I believe in the truth, and have shown the integrity of why truth and transparency matter to our community. I will always strive to be both truthful and transparent. I don’t sugar-coat things and the feedback I constantly receive is that people may not like my delivery, but they agree with what I’m saying. I will always strive to speak to the issues no matter how uncomfortable they might be.
