How old are you and what do you do?
I am a retired business executive who currently works as a Real Estate Realtor in Elgin. In addition to this, I also provide consulting services to clients who face issues in their real estate transactions. As a District General Manager in my previous role, I managed a working budget of over 50 million dollars.
What sets you apart from the other candidates?
I am a native of Elgin and I graduated from Elgin High School. I hold a business degree from SWTSU. Throughout my career, I have lived and worked in various places such as Florida, Arizona, New Mexico, and San Antonio. However, my hometown and heart have always been in Elgin Texas. I am a proud parent of four children, all of whom are graduates of Elgin ISD, and I am also a grandparent to five who have also graduated from EISD. Currently, my youngest granddaughter is attending Elgin High School. Education runs in my family. Between my daughters and grandchildren, there are four educators in my family. Additionally, my spouse has had a long career working for EISD and various school districts. In the past, I have served as a member of the EISD School Board of Trustees.
If elected, what will be your main priority?
Dedicated leadership – Use my experience and expertise to lead the school board toward making informed and effective decisions for the betterment of our students and teachers.
Advocate for educators and students – Prioritize necessary resources for teacher retention and student peak performance, ensuring that our students receive the best education possible.
Fiscal responsibility – Manage physical growth across the school district and address the surge in student population while keeping an eye on the budget to make sure that our resources are being used responsibly.
Promote safety, and accountability, and seek innovation on all school campuses to improve the quality of education.
Work closely with the superintendent to ensure that the team hired to lead our district is dedicated to our school district and leading our students toward progress. I believe it is crucial we create working relationships that are dedicated to our students and teachers.
What is the biggest issue facing Elgin/Elgin ISD at the moment?
The primary concern for Elgin ISD is the population growth we are currently experiencing. This growth must be carefully managed, and our resources evaluated with future needs in mind. Our increasing student population needs to be addressed and our leadership team needs to be very focused on the needs of our students and the strategies needed for our diverse ethnic groups.
Why are you running?
I am committed to running for Elgin ISD Board of Trustees because I believe in the potential of our schools and want to actively contribute to their growth. As a member of the Board, I will work closely with the school leadership teams to ensure that our schools make informed decisions that benefit all students and promote academic excellence and accountability.
Why should people vote for you?
My candidacy is based on my extensive knowledge of the current issues that our community is facing. I have a long-standing commitment to our schools and have actively advocated for the betterment of our students and educators. By voting for me, I am dedicated to bringing positive change and progress to our community and school district.
Why should voters trust you?
I hold integrity, credibility, and a genuine concern for people in high regard. As an Elgin resident, my primary objective is to work toward the advancement of all students and educators, with a special focus on groups that require extra support to pave their way toward a successful future.
