One of Elgin’s oldest caregiving organizations continued its tour of honors earlier this month, rewarding the county’s standout education professionals.
For over 30 years the Elgin Masonic Lodge has presented teachers and students with Maribeau B. Lamar award medals in recognition of their high achievements during the school year.
Recipients are selected by their peers from each school district campus, and students are picked by faculty members.
This year’s choice leaders from Elgin are Patricia Valle, Elgin Middle School, Alex Lundgren, Elgin Elementary School, Jeffrey Reid, Elgin High School, Hazel Humphries, Neidig Elementary, Dana Goerner, Booker T. Washington Elementary and Yulanda Mathis of Elgin Intermediate School.
Students Nathen Lewis and Nya Kirk Jones took home the medals.
McDade Independent School District’s honorees are elementary teacher Camryn Wilhelm, ELA teacher Suzanne Meads and James Baker, high school band director.
