The Coupland Civic Organization will host its annual National Night Out Aug. 6, on the Depot grounds. Attendees will enjoy a hot dog supper with homemade cookies. There will be updates from officials from the Sheriff’s Department, ESD#10, Constable’s office, County Commissioner’s office, Coupland School and more.
Planning is already underway for the annual Choo Choo Fest, which will be held Oct. 20. There will be the usual barbecue dinner prepared by Coupland’s Master Chef Peter Wabbel. The whole family will enjoy the free Kiddie Express Train and the petting zoo.
Elgin Depot Museum offers books by Coupland author The Elgin Depot Museum offers books for sale including history books by Coupland author Charlene Hanson Jordan “Cross Roads Elgin' and 'Stuck in the Mud at Post Oak Island.” The Museum is open Friday and Saturday, noon to 4 p.m., and during Sip, Shop and Stroll, the second Thursday, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Operated by the Elgin Historical Association, the Elgin Depot Museum features some special exhibits. There is a comprehensive display of historical communication equipment and an exhibit on World War I. There also is a special exhibit of the history of the apron.
“A fascinating story has come to light about the historical narratives of the simple apron we all use,” according to museum officials.
A permanent display is Area Veterans in the old ticket office starting with area veterans from the Texas Revolution. The Museum has an extensive photography and archives collection.
