Coupland holds its National Night Out earlier than most communities, and this year it was held Tuesday, Aug. 6, on the grounds of the historic Depot. The Coupland Civic Organization will host a free hot dog supper with homemade cookies. Officials from the Sheriff’s Department, Emergency Services District No. 10, Constable’s office, County Commissioner’s office and Earl Parcell, Coupland Independent School District superintendent, will discuss situations in the community, such as crime and safety, fire safety, school planning, budget and more.
Mark your calendar for the annual Choo Choo Fest, which will be held Oct. 20 in front of St. Peter’s Church. The usual delicious barbecue dinner will be served from 11:15 a.m. until the food runs out. Barbecue will be prepared by Coupland’s Master Chef Peter Wabbel and will include sausage, pork loin and chicken drumsticks. The sides of potato salad, coleslaw and beans will be homemade by Coupland Civic Organization members. There will be one of the famous Coupland bake sales. In addition, the colorful, collectible Coupland Caboose T-shirts will be for sale, along with other Coupland merchandise.
To entertain the children and indeed the entire family, there will be the Kiddie Express train offering free rides around Coupland. There will also be the free Homestead Petting Zoo, which was such a big hit last year.
Choo Choo Fest is the biggest fundraiser for the Coupland Civic Organization, which is a non-profit organization and uses the funds to maintain the historic Depot and caboose.
