School district to offer free, reduced-price meals

The Elgin Independent School District is providing free breakfasts to all students this school year and offering reduced-price lunches for eligible families.

The free breakfast is open to all enrolled students, and families may qualify for 40-cent lunch meals based on income eligibility or participation in assistance programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Elgin ISD officials said.

Children in foster care, classified as migrant or part of programs such as Head Start also qualify.

If a notification has been received indicating that a child is directly certified for free or reduced-price meals, there is no need to complete an application, officials said.

However, it is important to notify the school if any children in the household attending school are not listed in the letter, educators added.

Families can apply for the program at elginisd.nlappscloud. com.

For additional assistance or information about the application process, contact the Elgin ISD’s Child Nutrition Department at 512-281-9755 or email eguajardo@ elginisd.net.

Completed paper applications should be returned to the department at 805 B W. 10th St.

Meal-benefits applications can be submitted at any time during the school year, especially if household income changes, such as in the case of job loss or reduced hours. If a child’s application was approved last year, a new application must be submitted for the current school year unless the school has confirmed continued eligibility.

If additional assistance is needed, families may be eligible for other programs. More information can be obtained by contacting the local assistance office or dialing 211.
