BASTROP – A man killed in an exchange of gunfire with Bastrop County sheriff ’s deputies Aug. 3 has been ident i f ied as Christian Felix Gonzalez, 35. The deputies in the incident have been placed on administrative leave, a routine move in of f icer-involved shootings, said Sheriff Maurice Cook.
According to reports, a man opened fired on law officers responding to a call about an individual “indiscriminately shooting” with an SKS 7.62 rif le on Bobolink Street about 10:30 p.m.
After shots were fired at a deputy, the Bastrop County Special Response Team rushed to the area, investigators said. An armed man came out of his residence and “further engaged with the team,” according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Two deputies fired simultaneously, killing the individual, according to reports.
No other inju r ies were reported.
