BASTROP – The Bastrop Pride Board of Directors has welcomed two new members to fill the vacant roles of vice chair and treasurer.
Signaling a renewed commitment to fostering a supportive community for LGBTQIA+ residents, their fami lies, fr iends and allies, the board remains focused on raising awareness of LGBTQIA+ issues across Bastrop County and surrounding areas.
“As a new resident of Bastrop County, I'm excited to see how the Bastrop Pride community grows in numbers and support from both individuals and businesses,” said new Vice Chair Alyssa Blanco, alongside Treasurer Marcus.
After a successful Pride Festival in Downtown Bastrop in June, Bastrop Pride has shifted its focus to ongoing projects, including joining the Austin LGBT Chamber of Commerce.
Bast rop Pr ide also hosts “The Topic,” a monthly event featuring LGBTQIA+ discussions, art, community education and resources. Held on the second-to-last Tuesday of each month, the next session is scheduled for October 22.
“Having the opportunity to build each other up as we increase our awareness of issues that affect people and support each other as we navigate life is both necessary and rewarding,” Blanco added. “Having a safe place to discuss these topics and issues surrounding our community is such a valuable part of the mission of Bastrop Pride. I am honored to work alongside this group of dedicated people and look forward to making lasting connections in and around our great county.” In October, Bastrop will become the newest locat ion for PFLAG Austin, a support group providing a safe space for discussions, questions and shared experiences. Meetings will be held on the first Tuesday of each month at Calvary Episcopal Church Parish Hall, with the launch party scheduled for October 1. Attendees are invited to arrive at 6:45 p.m. for light snacks and a meetand- greet, with the meeting beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Bastrop Pride continues to foster social connections through weekly and monthly events such as game nights, outdoor activities, dinners and skate events. Future plans include expanding youth programs centered around support and adventure.
