The Elgin Wildcat soccer teams went winless in last week’s games.
The girls were narrowly defeated in their two contests, and the boys went 0-1-1. The Lady Wildcats are now a half game back from Bastrop for the No. 4 seed in district. The boys are tied with Bastrop for the sixth seed with a 2-5-1 record.
On Tuesday, Feb. 14, the Elgin boys hosted the Hendrickson Hawks, who currently hold the No. 3 seed in district. The Hawks seized control early in the contest and never let up. The Wildcats weren’t able to match Hendrickson’s offensive firepower and lost 3-0.
The Lady Wildcats visited Hendrickson on the same night. The Elgin girls showcased stingy defense, which has been a theme for Coach Taylor Cansler’s squad all season long. After being tied 0-0 for most of the game, the Lady Hawks cashed in a second-half goal and hung on to win 1-0.
Later in the week, the boys were on their home field once again in a matchup versus the East View Patriots. The Wildcat defense brought their A-game and held the Patriots scoreless. However, the Wildcats never found the back of the net either, resulting in a 0-0 tie.
The Lady Wildcats traveled to face East View. The flow of the game was nearly identical to their Feb. 14 contest. Both squads played excellent defense, but the Lady ‘Pats broke through with the go-ahead goal, winning 1-0.
The Elgin teams will look to bounce back this week, as they face Pflugerville Connally on Tuesday, Feb. 21, and Georgetown on Friday, Feb. 24. All games are scheduled to start at 7:15 p.m.
