STAFF REPORTS Two people were killed and several others injured in a multi-vehicle crash at U.S. 290 East and Texas 95 South over the weekend, police said.
Authorities were called to the intersection about 6:53 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, where a T-bone collision reportedly triggered the pileup. Elgin Fire Department, Acadian EMS and two medevac helicopters responded to the scene.
Three patients were taken to Austin hospitals, where two were pronounced dead.
Police said the deceased are not believed to be Elgin residents. Their names are being withheld pending family notification.
The Elgin Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team and Criminal Investigations Division are leading the investigation.
The collision marks the city’s second fatal crash of 2025, bringing Elgin’s traffic death toll up to four, according to police.
