Scholarships open to Elgin artists

The Elgin Arts Association is providing a special opportunity for young artists in the Elgin community.

Three scholarships, two for $2,000 and the Shirley Bowlin Memorial Scholarship for $2500, will be awarded to qualified candidates. Elgin Independent School District graduating seniors, EAA members and homeschoolers within EISD’s parameters who plan on pursuing an artistic discipline are eligible recipients.

“Strongest consideration will be given to students matriculating to institutions that have degree plans in disciplines considered art or fine art,” said the EAA in a statement. “Scholarship money will be sent directly to the receiving institution.”

Scholarship applications are available at the Elgin High School guidance office, and the deadline to submit is March 22. To submit, send the completed application to Jeff Warmhund via email: [email protected]

The EAA hosts various events throughout the year, such as the Pearls Before Swine art show, which takes place in conjunction with Hogeye Festival each year. The silent auction held at Pearls Before Swine is the main source of funding for these various scholarships.

“It is because of the generosity of donors and buyers alike that EAA is able to be so generous with scholarships this year,” said the EAA. “If you are interested in joining the arts association or lending your support as an event sponsor, please visit www.elginartsassociation.com or email [email protected].”
