Spring rays have started to shine, but winter winds may brisk into the area at least one more time.

A cold front will bring a small chance of rain but a better chance of winds Wednesday, Feb. 22. Local high temperatures recently started to reach the 80s for the first time this year but will dip back into the 70s Thursday.

“There are low chances for showers and isolated storms early Wednesday morning across the southern Edwards Plateau and Hill Country as a Pacific cold front moves over the local area,” said the National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio Office. “Gusty winds and dry air will create a high fire danger Wednesday afternoon across the Rio Grande, Edwards Plateau and Hill Country. Dry weather conditions are expected Thursday through Saturday (Feb. 21-23)”

Wednesday’s winds are expected to be 25-30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, especially in the morning as the front blows in with a 20% chance of showers. Winds and gusts on Thursday and Friday should be 10-15 mph slower.

Elgin temperatures are expected to reach the mid 80s Wednesday but stay in the upper 70s Thursday and lower 70s on Friday. Highs should return to near 80 degrees over the weekend. Nights should stay around 60 degrees for the rest of the week.

Despite dry conditions, skies should be cloudy or mostly cloudy heading into next week.
