The Cedar Creek Eagles’ postseason goals took a hit last week, adding extra pressure to the final four games on their schedule.

Entering last week, the Eagles were just one game back from the fourth and final playoff spot. Although they’re currently tied for the fifth seed, back-to-back losses put them a full two games back from fourth-ranked Hendrickson.

The Eagles nearly completed a stunning comeback in their Feb. 21 matchup versus the East View Patriots. Simply put, Cedar Creek came out sluggish and found themselves down 3-0 going into halftime.

However, the Eagles stormed back. Juan Guerrero Perez cashed in two second-half goals for Cedar Creek, and Gustavo Tobias added another. The Eagles suddenly had all the momentum and were firing on all cylinders. The Patriots finally stopped the bleeding with a second-half goal of their own, and they held on to win 4-3.

On Friday, Feb. 24, Cedar Creek had their hands full as they hosted the No. 1 ranked team in the district: The Pflugerville Connally Cougars.

Once again, the Eagles’ offense got off to a slow start, but goalkeeper Alexis Tinajero Vences made a few clutch saves to keep the score close. At halftime, Cedar Creek faced a 1-0 deficit.

The Eagles got a much needed spark when Alexis DeNova-Jaimes delivered an assist to Jonathan Bueno for a crucial goal. Yet, the Cougars’ aggressive offense led to two more goals, which was too much to overcome. The Eagles lost 3-1.

Cedar Creek has big games this week against Elgin (Feb. 28) and Georgetown (March 3). With the season approaching its end, the margin for error is slim.
