Wildcats drop two at tourney

LEANDER – The Elgin Wildcats (2-6-1) had a tough weekend on the road, losing two games at the Leander tournament.

On Friday, March 10, Elgin played their first game against the Carroll Tigers (9-6-2) and dropped the game 4-1.

Elgin scored their only run in the first inning, and only allowed two runs in the same inning.

For the next four innings, the Wildcats held the Tigers scoreless. Elgin gave up a run in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings, which sealed the victory for Carroll.

Although they lost the game, Elgin picked up six runs and caused one error.

In their second game of the day, Elgin faced the Vista Ridge Rangers (2-9-2), who were coming off of a 7-4 loss to Rouse.

The Wildcats fell short in their attempt to redeem themselves as they fell 8-0 to the Rangers. Vista Ridge started out hot scoring seven of their eight runs in the first two innings.

Elgin was able to keep the Rangers off the scoreboard for the third and fourth innings, but allowed another run in the fifth, giving Vista Ridge the win.

Elgin now sits at 2-6-1 on the season. The Wildcats will host their white and purple series March 15-16 with two games at home and two games at Eastview.

The Wildcats open district Tuesday, March 21, on the road against Pflugerville Connally (4-7).
