BASTROP – The Bastrop Bears defeated the Georgetown Eagles Friday, March 10, in a very tightly contested game that came down the wire.

The two teams battled it out throwing everything at each other trying to gain a victory for their team, and when the dust settled the Bears found themselves with a 1-0 win in hand.

The Bears took down the second place Georgetown in a back-and-forth contest that saw both teams empty their tanks. The Bears were not going to be intimidated by the skill of Georgetown and matched them the entire game.

With each minute that passed, the two teams would trade scoring chances but both goalkeepers were ready to shut down the other team. Spectacular saves and mistimed plays resulting in missed scoring opportunities led to the game being scoreless at halftime.

When the second half started, both teams began playing with more intensity as they tried to impose their will on each other.

More minutes ticked off the clock and the game was still scoreless but the Bears and Eagles showed no signs of slowing down. As the athletes on the field went into overtime, endurance wise, the game again intensified.

Every inch had to be earned and it became a matter of who wanted it more. The game would go into extra time as the teams were still scoreless after the 30-minute second half.

As the overtime started, fans became louder and louder as the anticipation for the opening and ending goal was going to be scored soon. In the 65th minute of the game, the Bears finally broke through and found the back of the net.

With a 1-0 win, the Bears are still on the outside looking in as far playoffs go, but picking up a big win against the second place team in the district is very good motivation heading into next season.
