Lady Tigers All-District honors

SMITHVILLE – The Smithville Lady Tigers’ season may have ended earlier than they would like, but they still played well enough to earn some All-District honors.

The Lady Tigers played a furious style of game of giving their helped them punch their ticket to the playoffs.

The first All-District team saw one Lady Tiger make it with freshman Ladonije Lewis being selected to the team. Lewis was a big part of the Lady Tigers' success this season in more ways than one and that helped her earn her spot on the 1st All-District team.

Lewis was a coach's dream this past season doing everything right and everything asked on both ends of the floor. Defensively and offensively, Lewis had the Lady Tigers covered with her elite level of play and tenacity.

In addition to her elite level of play, Lewis is only a freshman at Smithville High School and will become a even bigger presence on the team as she continues to play.

On the second All-District team, the Lady Tigers had a pair of sophomores named to the team. Arabella Gutierrez and Jordyn Brown both earned second team, and hope to continue to build alongside Lewis.

Brown was a massive part of Smithville’s defense, being a great rebounder and having the ability to finish close to the basket. Gutierrez also contributed defensively for the Lady Tigers, also being a great rebounder as well as a great passer to find open teammates to score more points.

Last, but certainly not least, were the players who earned honorable mentions.

Juniors Avery Bezner and Monica Lewis, along with sophomore Chelsea Hendrix, were all named as honorable mentions for the Lady Tigers. Again, they were vital to the Lady Tigers' team and their success this season both on and off the court as they were considered leaders on the team and made sure to lead by example on the court.
