BASTROP – The Bastrop Bears start their district season off on the right foot after picking up a big win over the Pflugerville Panthers Wednesday, March 15, at home.
The Bears defeated the Panthers 10-1, and look to continue their winning ways as the season rolls along.
Starting the game, the Bears would get out of the top of the first inning without surrendering a run, setting up their offense to seize control of the game. The Bears put two runs on the score board before going back on defense, but with a 2-0 lead they felt confident.
The Panthers found their way back to home plate to cut the Bears' lead in half in the second inning, but the Bears responded in a big way. Still feeling the positive effects of their quick offensive start, the Bears capitalized on that momentum.
The Bears scored six runs in the second inning to distance themselves on the scoreboard and re-establish a multi-run lead over the Panthers. Now sitting with a 8-1 lead, Bastrop continued their defensive stand by keeping the Panthers offense at bay.
However, the Panthers would show they were not going to back down in this game, and their defense made a stand. With both teams being held scoreless in the third and fourth inning, the Panthers began to feel some confidence brewing.
Arriving at the fifth inning, Pflugerville was again held scoreless as the Bears went back on offense looking to put the nail in the coffin. The Bears scored two more runs to bring the score to 10-1 as the teams entered the final two innings.
The two teams would resume their defensive masterclass as no runs were scored in the sixth or seventh inning, ending the game making the Bears victorious.
With a 1-0 record in district, the Bears set their sights on Hendrickson as they looked to pick up another win in district on Tuesday, March 21, on Hendrickson’s home field.
