PFLUGERVILLE – The Cedar Creek Eagles edged out the Hendrickson Hawks 4-3 on the road to pick up their first district win of the season Thursday, March 16.
The win improves the Eagles record to 1-1 in district play, keeping them in a playoff spot for now.
Cedar Creek took full control, scoring the first run of the game in the first inning. The Eagles defense would then continue that momentum by shutting down the Hawks offense in the first and second inning.
The third inning would see the Eagles score again, but this time they tripled their score. The Eagles scored three runs in the third inning giving them a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third.
Hendrickson finally responded in the bottom of the third scoring their first run of the contest, which cut into the Eagles lead.
This would carry over into the fourth inning as the Hawks added another run, making the game more competitive and intense. The fifth and sixth inning saw fans go through a roller coaster of emotion as every hit, walk, ball and strike mattered.
The Eagles were held scoreless in the seventh inning as the Hawks went back on offense only down two runs. The Hawks added a run to the scoreboard, and now sat only one run away from forcing extra innings.
The Eagles defense knew they had to make a stand, and after losing their first district game, they knew they would have to dig deep in order to come away with a win. Fortunately, the Eagles were able to find their groove on defense and secured the third out to end the game and pick up the victory.
With their first district win under their belt, the Eagles set their sights on their next opponent, the Pflugerville Connally Cougars, whom they matchuped with Tuesday, March 21, on the Eagles home field.
