Officers are another step closer from their new home from which they can serve and protect.
Elgin police and officials broke ground on their planned police station March 20. The new 11,000-square-foot facility is meant to enhance growing police service in Elgin.
The two-story building will be located on Depot Street and include space for processing, investigations, training and staff. From the city perspective, the building is also designed to enhance the historic district across the street from the Veterans Memorial Park Expansion, which will also break ground this year. The facility is the first new construction for a police station and is the first new city facility in the downtown historic district.
FGMA Architects and Baird Williams Construction led construction team. Funds are through Certificates of Obligation 2021A and American Rescue Plan Act funds.
