GIDDINGS – The Smithville Lady Tigers traveled to Giddings to take on the Lady Buffaloes, where they grabbed an early lead, and rode that momentum to a pick up another district win.
The Lady Tigers took down the Lady Buffaloes with a 12-3 win to continue their push for the playoffs.
The game started with Smithville on offense, and they started off the game very strong. The Lady Tigers would end up scoring three runs in the top of the first to get some early momentum.
The Lady Buffaloes were on their home field, and they were not going to accept the Lady Tigers' strong offensive inning. Giddings responded by scoring two runs of their own and making it a one-run game.
With a 3-2 score, the two teams were held scoreless until the bottom of the third when the Lady Buffaloes evened things up. Giddings tied the game at three in the third inning, but the excitement was short-lived with the Lady Tigers lurking around waiting to strike back offensively.
The Lady Tigers would flex their offensive muscles in the top of the fifth inning, and it helped quiet the home crowd. Smithville scored five runs in the fourth inning to make it an 8-3 game, which led to them shutting the door on defense.
The Lady Buffaloes would do everything in their power to get back into the game, but the Lady Tigers defense was too overpowering. Heading into the sixth inning with the same score, the Lady Tigers looked to fully put the game to bed.
They scored two runs in both the sixth and seventh inning to extend their lead and give themselves a comfortable 12-3 lead before closing out the game.
Sitting in a playoff spot, the Lady Tigers hoped to continue their momentum Monday, April 10 against the La Grange Lady Leopards.
