Lady Tigers blow out Titans

The Smithville Lady Tigers softball team defeated the Manor New tech Lady Titans 21-1 on the road on Friday, April 18.

The Lady Tigers got off to a hot start against the Lady Titans and held onto that momentum to win the game.

Starting on offense, the Lady Tigers had their first two batters walk. Payten Alamillo would then step up to the plate and rocket a ball to the outfield. The hit would result in a triple for the Lady Tigers, scoring both runners on base.

After a strikeout, two walks and a fly out the Lady Tigers had a 2-0 lead with two outs and the bases loaded. The Lady Tigers would then have their next five batters walk which added five runs to the scoreboard before the Lady Titans closed out the inning.

The Lady Tigers' defense would shut down the Lady Titans' offense allowing them to build on their offensive momentum. The Lady Tigers would add two runs in the third inning because of more walks bringing runners home.

Now with a 9-0 lead, the Lady Tigers defense continued to dominate as the top of the fourth inning and the Lady Tigers offense were ready to get going. Two more walks and a single later, the Lady Tigers scored another run.

Those plays would be followed up by the same series of events of a single, triple and sacrificefly. This would help the Lady Tigers score six runs, which was followed up by them scoring eight runs in the fifth.

Those two big innings would effectively end the game for the Lady Tigers as their defense would allow one run to score. But with a 22-run lead, the game was called, and the two teams shook hands.

With the season wrapped up, the Lady Tigers now set their sights on their next game against their rivals the Taylor Lady Ducks on Tuesday, April 18.
