BASTROP – After falling behind 6-3 in the second inning, the Cedar Creek Eagles rallied to defeat the Bastrop Bears 12-7 Tuesday, April 18.
The Eagles were the home team, so they were on defense first, and they really set the tone for the game. The Eagles would get the three outs they needed while only walking one batter.
From there the Eagles would record a single, then get walked and then hit back-to-back singles to drive in the first three runs of the game. The Bears’ defense prevented further damage on the scoreboard, getting three outs shortly after.
The Bears took that offensive explosion personally and responded by scoring six runs in the second inning. The first three batters for the Bears hit back-to-back singles and then a double to cut the Eagles lead to one run.
Trailing 3-2, the Bears were just getting started after an error from the Eagles. The Bears would score another run to tie the game up at three runs each. The Eagles got two outs on the board but after two walks the Bears looked to make another impact on the game.
The Bears hit the ball into the outfield for a base hit, and utilized their speed to bring two more runs home to make it a 6-3 ball game. The Eagles needed to find a way to respond and get their crowd back into the game if they were going to have a chance at winning.
The Eagles led off with a triple, which fired up the crowd and the dugout as they provided a little bit of optimism for the team. Right after the triple, CedarCreek recorded a base hit to drive home the runner on third to cut into the Bears lead.
After getting two outs, Bastrop delivered a pitch that the Eagles would smack into the outfield for a base hit that brought home another run to cut the Bears lead to only one run. Going into the third, the Eagles pulled off a double play to get out of the inning again firing up the crowd and the dugout.
The Eagles would take full advantage of that momentum, scoring five runs in the third inning to retake the lead 10-6. No runs would be added in the fourth or fifth inning for either team, but in the sixth the Eagles added two more runs to the board.
Bastrop tried to get themselves back in the game during the seventh inning, but the Eagles defense was too strong allowing only one run to score before ending the game.
With the huge win under their belt the Eagles set their sights on the Pflugerville Panthers, who they faced Tuesday, April 25, as their hunt for the fourth seed continues.
