Elgin Independent School District and the Wildcats football program will be active this Friday night as the school will host a youth football combine and varsity spring football game for local fans to come out and enjoy.
With both events being held at Wildcat Stadium on the northwest side of town, Elgin will first have its youth football combine at 5:30 p.m. followed by the spring football game followed at 7 p.m. immediately afterward.
The youth football combine will be for both boys and girls who are incoming second through eighth graders, while the spring game will be exclusively for freshmen through seniors in the Wildcats football program.
General admission tickets for the events are $10 per guest and can be purchased online on the official Elgin Wildcats Athletics website.
Under head coach Heath Clawson, the Wildcats showed their prowess as one of the most improved teams across the entire state of Texas as Elgin did a complete turnaround from a winless 0-10 season in 2021 to an impressive 7-4 record in 2022.
Last year’s campaign was the first time Elgin made the playoffs since back in 2014 during the Wildcats’ first year since being promoted to 5A when they finished 7-5 overall.
Elgin football certainly has a bright future and that will be fully on display this Friday night with the youth combine and spring football game. This is the perfect opportunity for fans to get a look at this program and what it has to offer for the near and distant future.
Varsity football is right around the corner as Elgin will open its 2023 regular-season campaign on the road against Lampasas High School. The Wildcats knocked off the Badgers at home in 2022 by a score of 29-20 and will look to again start their season on a very high note.
