BASTROP – Bastrop Independent School District launches a new program with the coming school year, putting laptops in the hands of students.

BootUp 1:1 Technology Initiative, beginning with the Fall 2023 semester, will assign grades 6-12 BISD learners a Chromebook for use at school and home. This new aid comes as an independent development, separate from the recently approved for proposal $321 million bond.

The initiative is designed to support student s ’ educat ional success and the continuous development of curriculum with high-quality instructional materials. Pupils are ensured new grade-appropriate content.

The schools also hope to instill best technology practice in the students. They will learn general maintenance and device care, as well as safe, respectful and legal computer use.

Parents should only expect to pay for a $25 protection plan.

Laptops are not a part of the new grant proposal, which board members agreed upon this past May. This means families can expect for BootUp 1:1 to remain a part of BISD practice, if seen as a success.

The bond focuses more on structural development. It includes a proposed two new elementary schools, a multipurpose facility, high school academic wings, playgrounds and more. All of this potential development is still far off, though.

Back-to-school events are underway entering August, with the first day of the school year coming August 16. Check in at https:// www.bisdtx.org for other orientation or teacher meet dates and times.
