The Elgin Wildcats hosted a track meet at their home track Thursday, March 30, and had 12athletes walk away with a medal.

The Wildcats had eight athletes take home gold and four take home a silver medal between their junior varsity and varsity teams, making for a very strong showing at their home meet.

The Wildcats girl’s junior varsity team had both a gold and silver medal winner on their team. Sanaia Goodman pulled double duty for the Wildcats running in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash.

Goodman would prove to be the right choice, taking home the gold in the 100 and silver in the 200. The girls' varsity team followed that performance up with another silver medal from their 4x100-meter relay team.

The team consisted of Jaylan Roberson, Makayla Bowman, Gabby King and Kaylin Cook, and they showed why they should be taken seriously as a team. Finishing the race in 51.95 seconds,the relay team easily took second place and received their silver medals with grace.

The boys’ junior varsity team had a very strong showing, taking home four gold medals. Three of the four gold medals went to Curtis McFarlin after winning the 110-meter hurdles, 300-meterhurdles and the triple jump events.

McFarlin was joined by teammates Jake Johnson and Joseph Stiggers as they won a silver and gold medal respectively. Johnson would take home silver in the pole vault while Stiggers would take gold in the shot-put event.

The relay team of Blake Thames, JaMyron Burton, Emmanuel Asafotei and Omar Palacios also grabbed gold.

Those combined performances from the trio allowed the junior varsity team to finish in second place overall.

This led to a strong showing from the boys' varsity team who ended up finishing in third place overall. The varsity team brought home four medals, three of which were gold medals.

Justin Strong led the varsity boys with gold in three different events including the 400 and triple jump. Strong would also join up with teammates Sebastian Jackson, Nate Lewis and Miguel Nunez for the 4x400 relay, where they received a gold medal.

Jonathan Muerin would take charge of the 200 for the Wildcats, where he finished the race in second place to give the Wildcats their 12th medal of the day.
