Anna Marie “Ann” Teinert

Anna Marie “Ann” Teinert, age 93, of Cypress, went to be with the Lord April 28, 2023. Ann was born Aug. 13, 1929, the second of five children in Giddings, to Otto and Andanilla Balke Gruetzner.

She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church and moved to Austin at the age of 3, where she was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church and was active for many years.

She graduated from Austin High School in 1946, and attended St. John’s College in Winnfield, Kansas. She then moved to Houston where she taught kindergarten and first grade before moving back to Austin, where she did secretarial work at the University of Texas and met the love of her life, Willard C. Teinert, at church.

In 1952, they were married at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Austin by Rev. Albert Jesse. They lived in Tulsa, Belton, Temple and Waco, but spent most of their married life in the Austin and Elgin area and were actively involved at Hope Lutheran and St. Paul Lutheran churches in Austin, as well as Grace Lutheran Church in Elgin. In 2002, they moved to Friendswood to be near their daughter and family.

Ann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and her happiest moments were time spent with them. Holidays were always wonderful at her home with fun family gatherings and meals. She made sure Christmas was very special, as the whole family would be able to be together for a few days. She would anticipate these special moments by decorating the house with manger scenes, trains and miniature towns blanketed with snow.

Ann was a warm and kindhearted person. You could sense her love for people by just being around her. She looked forward to her and Willards’ family reunions where she would enjoy “catching up” with relatives. Ann loved her church, teaching and serving there for many years.

She will be greatly missed for the love that she poured out over all of us, but it brings us great joy to know that she is with her heavenly Father and her beloved husband Willard, once again.

Our special thanks to the incredible, loving caretakers and staff from Bristol Park, Right at Home and Altus Hospice.

Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years on Nov. 20, 2022, as well as her parents, Otto and Andanilla Gruetzner; brothers, Bobby Gruetzner, Uce Gruetzner and Otto Jr. Gruetzner.

Ann is survived by her brother, James Gruetzner of Farmington Hills, Michigan. Ann is also survived by her son, Randy and his wife, Eileen, of Orlando, Florida; and daughter, Pam Garrison and her husband, Phil, of Houston. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Alicia Garrison of Houston, Travis Teinert of Orlando, and Amy Teinert of Orlando, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A service celebrating her life will be held May 23, at 11 a.m.at Grace Lutheran Church in Elgin with Reverend Carl Roth officiating.
