SCHULENBERG — The Smithville girls varsity softball team delivered a spotless performance at the Schulenburg Tournament last weekend, rolling to a perfect record behind three combined no-hitters from Addison Otto and Jessica Hinnent.
The dominant weekend lifted Smithville to an 11-4 overall mark as the Lady Tigers prepare for the Flatonia Tournament March 6-8.
Smithville opened the tournament with a 7-0 shutout of host Schulenburg, highlighted by Otto’s five-inning no-hitter and 13 strikeouts. Offensive support came from Collins, who went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
The Lady Tigers followed with a 10-0 victory over Luling, as Hinnent tossed her first no-hitter of the weekend and collected two RBIs, while teammates Kenna Tiner and Kenzly White also drove in a pair of runs each.
In its toughest matchup, Smithville slipped past Woodsboro, 2-0, with Hinnent tossing her second consecutive no-hitter. Brityn Roberts delivered the crucial blow, breaking a scoreless tie in the fourth with a two-RBI double.
The girls went on to outscore Snook and Moulton by a combined 21-3 to close out the impressive tournament play.
