Elgin Independent School District is set for a surge of new Wildcats in the coming decade, according to a recent demographic report presented during the February Board of Trustees meeting.
Population and Survey Analysts projects Elgin ISD enrollment could reach about 14,500 students by 2034 — more than double the cur rent 5,980. This places Elgin ISD among the fastest- growing districts in Central Texas, having expanded by over 28% in the past five years alone, potentially requiring additional campuses to meet future needs, Superintendent of Schools Jana Rueter said in a statement.
“If projections hold, we may need up to three new elementary schools and two new middle schools by the 2034 school year,” she added.
The district’s recent $375 million bond, approved by voters in May 2024, helps address this anticipated growth by funding projects such as a new auditorium at Elgin High School and a second middle school. Work also continues on earlier bond initiatives from 2021.
In addition, the Board unanimously approved an agreement securing a donated 12-acre site in the Lund Farm planned subdivision for a future elementary school. The property is located north of Elgin, near County Line Road and Texas 95.
“We are deeply grateful for the collaboration and generosity of our city and community partners,” Rueter said. “These facilities will be examples of our commitment to the students and community of Elgin… It’s an exciting time to be a Wildcat.”
According to Rueter, the district plans to remain focused on engagement and innovation, ensuring students have every opportunity for a bright future as Elgin ISD braces for its significant growth.
