Bastrop softball stays hot, 3-0 in district

BASTROP — The Bastrop Bears varsity softball roster delivered two commanding district victories last week, shutting out Cedar Creek 15-0 March 4, and cruising to an 18-1 win over Navarro March 7.

The girls now stand at 7-6 overall and 3-0 in district competition. They resume action March 11 at LASA before hosting Crockett Friday, March 14, at 7 p.m.

Vs. Cedar Creek

Bastrop set the tone early, plating two runs in the first inning on a wild pitch and a fielder’s choice.

The Bears then broke loose in the second, securing six runs courtesy of sophomore Jessa Clay’s two-RBI double and junior Lanie Coy’s RBI single. Four more rounds followed on a walk, two groundouts and an error.

Senior pitcher Ella Griesenbeck allowed just one hit over three innings, striking out three.

The girls tacked on six more runs in the third, then clinched the mercy- rule victory with a run in the fourth.

Junior Madison Perez led the way with three RBIs.

Vs. Navarro

Coy, Griesenbeck and Clay combined to go 5-for-9 with nine RBIs in an 18-1 rout.

The Bears stormed out to an 11-0 lead in the first inning, highlighted by Clay’s bases-clearing single, senior Kylie Mc-Nabb’s two-run knock and a three-run triple by Griesenbeck.

Clay later added another RBI single to widen the gap.

Bastrop pushed across seven more runs before the game ended.

Senior pitcher Molleigh Goertz earned the win on the mound, allowing one run over three innings and striking out three.
