Pedro R “Pete” Hernandez
Born Nov. 20, 1934, to Jose and Juana Hernandez. He was married to the love of his life Matilde Hernandez for 69 years. Pete proudly gave 45 years of service to Meyers Elgin Sausage. Pete enjoyed sitting on his front porch, fishing, family gatherings, dancing with his wife, watching sports, being the family carpenter, yard work and gambling at Winstar Casino with his wife by his side and spending time with his dog/best friend Boy.
Pete is predeceased by parents, Jose and Juana Hernandez; brother, Ralph Hernandez; and sisters, Connie Aguilera and Ofelia Contreras.
Pete is survived by his wife, Matilde Hernandez; sisters, Rebecca Ortega, Janie Marciel and Alice Hernandez; sons, Arthur Hernandez (Janie), Guadalupe “Wally” (Macaria) and Gilbert Hernandez (Lupe); daughters, Rosemary Hadi (Habib) and Debbie Maldonado (Roy); grandchildren, Amy Vasquez, Shahram Hadi, Arthur Hernandez, Jr., Andrew Hernandez (Krystal), Amanda Hernandez, Laura Gutierrez (Phillip), Roy Anthony Maldonado, Jr., Daniella Maldonado, Gabriella Hernandez, Christian Hernandez and Angelica Hernandez; 13 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.
A visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 p.m.
A celebration of Mass Christian burial was held Thursday, July 6, at noon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment followed in the Elgin Latin Cemetery. A reception followed at Elgin VFW until 4:00 PM.
Service Pallbearers were Shahram Hadi, Arthur Hernandez, Jr., Andrew Hernandez, Anthony Maldonado, Christian Hernandez, Phillip Gutierrez, Isaac Hernandez and Julian Vasquez.
A special thanks to WellMed of Elgin, Austin Heart Hospital, Gentiva Hospice Care and Texas Oncology- Bastrop for providing care and comfort.
