CATCH AND RELEASE FISHING

ELGIN – Join the Parks and Recreation team this spring break for a free fishing event at Morris Memorial Pond, March 14 at 10 a.m. A limited number of fishing poles and bait will be provided alongside a knot tying station. Bring some gear and share pictures of catches.

MARCH 15

PICNIC IN THE PARK

ELGIN – Come out with the community, March 15 at 11 a.m., and enjoy kite flying, cloud watching, and lawn games at Elgin Memorial Park. This free spring break event is geared towards all ages interested in spending an afternoon in the park with guided events.

HOUSELHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE

SMITHVILLE – Bastrop and Lee County will be hosting their next Household Hazardous Waste Clean Up event March 16. Improper disposal of hazardous materials can lead to fires, toxic fumes or ground contamination. Acceptable waste items include tires, cleaning supplies, electronics, batteries, degreasers, polishers, pool chemicals, paints, stains, thinners, herbicides and pesticides. The dumping facility is located at 109 Taylor Street, Smithville, and will be open from 9 a.m. to noon. Required online vouchers are available at www.co.bastrop.tx.us/page/ds.household_ waste.

LATINO INFLUENCES EXHIBIT

ELGIN – The Elgin Depot Museum suggests marking March 23 for the official opening of its new “Latino Influences in Texas and Bastrop Co.” exhibit, recognizing Bastrop County and local leaders.
