BASTROP — A six-run fourth inning and a strong pitching performance from sophomore Ella Griesenbeck carried Bastrop to a 10-0 rout of Crockett Friday, March 14.

Bastrop’s varsity softball team improved to 5-0 in district play and have outscored district opponents by a combined 58-3.

Junior Madison Perez sparked the offense in the second inning with an RBI single, helping Bastrop take a 1-0 lead. She would go on to finish 2-for-2, including two RBIs.

Senior Bailey Merritt stretched the margin to 3-0 in the fourth with a two-run single, then junior Lanie Coy added an RBI triple. Seniors Laicey Sullivant and Bryleigh Fawcett also chipped in with RBI singles, pushing the lead to 7-0.

Griesenbeck fanned nine over six innings, allowing just four hits in the shutout.

The Bears sealed the run-rule victory by drawing three straight bases loaded walks in the sixth, raising their overall record to 9-6-1.

Bastrop visits McCallum March 18 before hosting RSYWL Tuesday, March 25, at 7 p.m.
