No hitter drops Lady Titans

SMITHVILLE — The Smithville High School varsity softball team ended the past week on a high note Friday, April 12 as the Lady Tigers cruised to a 15-0 shutout win at home versus Manor New Tech High School.

Following a 9-2 loss April 9 hosting Caldwell High School, Smithville was able to bounce back and improve its place in the 4A-District 22 standings with a dominant performance over the Lady Titans. Smithville routed New Tech with three runs in the bottom of the first inning, scored four times in the second frame, plated six runs in the third inning and two more runs in the fourth frame to put the run rule into effect.

The Lady Tigers got two runs batted in apiece from Claire Kennon, Brityn Roberts and Dakota Young and one RBI each from Raini Stanley, Jessi Davis, Kenzly White, Kenna Tiner and Brittney Collins in the win.

Addison Otto was dominant in the circle as she threw a no-hitter against New Tech with four innings pitched, nine strikeouts, only two walks issued and no runs allowed.

Smithville (14-10-3 overall, 5- 4 district record), under Head Coach Wayne Otto, has clinched a playoff berth and headed into this week as the No. 3 seed in the district standings. The Lady Tigers played their final regular- season district game April 16 at Taylor High School.
