Responsible for filtering and treating water from residential and commercial sewer systems, the expanded plant doubled the size and treatment capacity for the city to two million gallons daily. The work of general contractor CSA and engineering firm TRC Engineers also brought a new generator, lab, clarifier, aerobic digestor to assist sludge disposal, filtration system, belt press, accompanying building and a long list of site upgrades. A new plaque rests on the façade of the upgraded plant in honor of Doug Prinz. Prinz was a born-and-raised Elginite who dedicated his life to the city he loved. “The impact Doug had was truly one-of-a-kind,” said City Manager Thomas Mattis. Prinz worked for the city as a director in the water/wastewater department, served as Elgin’s representative on the Lost Pines Ground Water District, fire chief of the Elgin Volunteer Fire Department and President of the Texas State Firemen’s and Fire Marshal’s Association.
