Museum seeks tattoo tales

BASTROP — County residents that have used their body as a canvas are being called upon for an upcoming special exhibit.

The Bastrop Museum and Visitor Center, along with the Bastrop County Historical Society, are asking for locals to share their tattoos and stories behind them for “Stories Inked in Skin,” opening July 8.

“Tattoos are more than just skin deep; they carry stories, memories and cultural significance,” exhibit organizer Heather Bloom said. “We want to showcase the diverse and meaningful tattoos of our community and share the stories behind them.”

The showcase will explore the history of the ancient art and feature contemporary stories and photographs of tattooed county residents.

Bloom, alongside BCHS trustee Ron Ramirez, will be selecting the exhibit submissions, particularly interested in tattoos with unique stories and personal significance.

“We’re excited to hear the stories and see the art that makes up our community. This exhibit will be a celebration of personal expression and community heritage,” Bloom added.
