BASTROP JUNETEENTHPARADE BASTROP — Hosted down Bastrop’s historic Main Street, parade participants will march, perform and display their various organizations and affiliations on floats and vehicles to the delight of attendees lining the street. Come enjoy the different categories being represented all in celebration of the African American culture before heading to Fisherman’s Park for the Festival, followed by an evening Street Dance on Main Street. The parade begins at 10 a.m.

BASTROP —From noon to 2 p.m., sample the cookoff entries cooked by competitors and vote for your favorites in brisket, ribs, beans and chicken in the People’s Choice awards during the Juneteenth BBQ Cook-off in Bastrop during the Juneteenth Celebration in beautiful Fisherman’s Park along the river.

ELGINORALHISTORY PROJECTANDTHE OPENROOM ELGIN — Excerpts from stories about Elgin’s Southside will be shared by local actors, artists and students from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Open Room fine arts photography galler, 11 Central Ave. in Elgin. Interview subjects include Pete Bega, Delores Del Cantu, T. Berry, Shorty Russell, Ruby Simms and Shifton McShan. The program is directed and edited by Molly Owen and Karen Bernstein. Volunteers for the non-profit, community- based Elgin Oral History Project have conducted numerous interviews with persons who live or have lived in Elgin.
