Grand display, cheap fireworks: VFW to put on a spectacle

Grand display, cheap fireworks: VFW to put on a spectacle

Elgin’s proud are set to light up the night skies this Independence Day in good-old Texas fashion, offering up the “cheapest fireworks in Elgin” to help fund the big show.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6115 is ready for its fourth annual Fourth of July celebration, bringing more than just fireworks around this time of year.

“This year we are trying to make it more of a festival feel with lariat roping demonstrations, live music, silent auction, craft vendors, water slides for the kids, cupcake roulette, food trucks and of course, fireworks,” Tiffany Finley said.

Festivities kick off 5 p.m. at 118 Old Sayers Road. Dusk is expected to settle around 8:30 p.m. with the community fireworks spectacle to begin shortly after.

Putting on a fireworks display can be an expensive endeavor, according to Finley. To help raise money for the grand finale, Finley’s Festive Fireworks has promised to make the stand’s selection the cheapest in the area and will donate all of the money needed for the show that donations don’t cover.

Finley’s can be found on site at the VFW Post.

Patriotic piggy shirts will also be available for purchase to help raise funds.

Live music backing the evening affair will be provided by Spellbound, Twisted Round and Elisa Peña, with Gary Luedecke running sound.

Funds from the silent auction, run by the VFW auxiliary, will be put towards programs that help in-need veterans and their families.

“We hope this will grow to be a staple in the community like Hogeye or Western Days,” Finley added. “In years past, we haven’t done a lot of promotion but still get a huge crowd. This year we have definitely promoted the event, so are expecting an even bigger crowd.”

Donations for VFW Post No. 6115 and this year’s celebrations can be made at https:// vfw6115.org/donate/.
