‘Indiscriminate’ shooter dead

BASTROP — An unidentified shooter was left dead after engaging with Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office deputies last weekend.

Local law enforcement responded to a call Aug. 3 regarding an individual “indiscriminately shooting” east of the city, reports said.

The individual fired at deputies on scene, prompting the arrival of the Sheriff’s Office’s Special Response team.

The suspect would later engage with the response team and was subsequently shot and killed, according to the office.

No deputies were injured in the shooting, Sheriff Maurice Cook added.

The investigation remains ongoing and Cook stated no further information will be released at this time.

According to those who knew the suspect, he served in the Marines for many years and was “different” upon his return home.
