Lady Wildcats swept by Cougars

The Elgin Lady Wildcats varsity volleyball team battled hard but fell Sept. 10 to the LBJ Austin Cougars in straight sets.

The loss marks Elgin's fifth defeat in their last eight games, dropping their record to 6-16, while the Cougars improved to 6-8.

Elgin put up a strong fight despite the 3-0 set score. After losing the first 25-14, the Lady Wildcats made the final two sets competitive, falling 25-20 and 25-23.

Sophomore setter Meta Elliot stood out with nine digs and three assists, leading the Lady Wildcats’ efforts. Key contributions also came from Trinity Martinez, who added six digs and five serving points, and Bella Navejas, who recorded five serving points and several blocks.

The Lady Wildcats will look to turn things around as they head into district play, meeting Georgetown Friday at home, 6:30 p.m.
