Tigers' struggles continue against Apaches

The Smithville Tigers varsity football team lost 48-12 to the Gonzales Apaches on Friday, Oct. 11. This marks the sixth straight loss for the Tigers as they search for its first win of the season.

Smithville started the game behind as the Apaches scored early attacking the Tigers on the ground with multiple big runs. Gonzales eventually gained a two-possession lead 14-0 on a couple of rushing touchdowns and never looked back. The game was out of reach in the second half as the Apaches held a 41-6 lead in the third quarter. However, Smithville continued to fight, adding a late touchdown and gaining some offensive momentum.

The Smithville offense struggled accounting for under 200 yards. Some of the top performers for the Tigers were junior quarterback Tripp Davis who went 6-11 for 52 yards and a touchdown to go along with 72 rushing yards. His top target was junior wide receiver Eric Thompson. Junior running back David Clack III led the Gonzales offense with 115 yards and three rushing touchdowns.

The Tigers will look to improve on another disappointing performance as they head to Lago Vista at 7:30 p.m. at the Lago Vista High School Stadium.
