Wildcats face tough matchup versus Liberty Hill

The Elgin Wildcats varsity football team will go on the road to take on the Liberty Hill Panthers on Friday, Oct. 11. The Wildcats will look to remain undefeated in district play, starting the season 2-0.

Sophomore qua rterback Dylan Owens leads the Elgin offense as he has done it through the air and on the ground, accounting for 721 passing yards and 245 rushing yards. Owens also has 11 total touchdowns this year. His top target has been junior wide receiver Gary Jefferson Jr. with 289 receiving yards and three scores. Another player of note has been Jalen Owens, leading the team in all-purpose yards with 681 and 12 touchdowns.

One of the keys to the game will be whether the Wildcats can stop the run, as Liber ty Hill heavily relies on its dominant running game led by senior running back Kyle May and junior running back Bryce Muchaw. May leads the team with 490 rushing yards and eight touchdowns while Muchaw has accounted for 453 yards and five scores.

Junior middle linebacker Matthew Clear has been the anchor of the Elgin defense, accounting for 51 tackles on the season, with eight being for loss. Other notable players on that side of the ball are senior outside linebackers Jackson Clowdus and Miguel Nunez, who have combined for 12 tackles for loss.

Senior middle linebackers Caleb Nicholas and Garrett Lindgren lead the Liberty Hill defense. Nicholas has 48 tackles, with 10 for loss, while Lindgren has 44, with five for loss on the season.

The game is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. at Liberty Hill Panther Stadium.
