Pink power: Bluebonnet Electric supports breast cancer awareness

BASTROP — For the 12th consecutive year, Bluebonnet Elect r ic Cooperative is turning pink in support of Nat ional Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Throughout October, the co-op’s buildings, vehicles and employees will participate in raising awareness for the cause.

“Bluebonnet is proud to be one of the many organizations across Cent ral Texas that participate in raising awareness every October,” Matt Bentke said, Bluebonnet’s general manager. “We encourage everyone to learn more about early detection, preventive measures and signs and symptoms of breast cancer. It could make the difference in your life, or the life of someone you love.”

Bluebonnet’s member service centers in Bastrop, Brenham, Giddings, Lockhart and Manor will be lit up in pink during the evenings. Field crews will wear pink hard hats and service trucks will display pink ribbon decals to further spread the message.

Members are invited to visit any of the service centers to pick up a pink ribbon pin and a breast cancer reminder card with self-exam instructions for early detection.

According to the Nat ional Breast Cancer Foundation, more than 360,000 people, including about 2,800 men, will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2024.

Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative, one of the largest electric cooperat ives in Texas, has served its members since 1939. The co-op serves more than 134,000 meters and maintains 12,800 miles of power lines across 14 Central Texas counties. To learn more, visit bluebonnet.coop.
